Biography

AEKYUNG KIM, 24, born in Richmond, Virginia, has received her bachelor’s and master’s degree at The Juilliard School and is a current member of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Kim completed her undergraduate studies with Toby Appel, and her graduate studies with Heidi Castleman and Cynthia Phelps. Some of the most memorable moments in her career include performing in the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors with Yo-Yo Ma, performing Mahler’s Fist Symphony with the BSO, making it to the finals of the NYC Ballet Orchestra audition, and winning a spot in the Hartford Symphony Orchestra at the young age of twenty-two. Winning various competitions at a young age, Ms. Kim gained wonderful solo performance opportunities venues such as Carnegie Hall, Tilles Center and Kennedy Center. Ms. Kim is currently based in NYC pursuing teaching and freelance work, and substitutes in other orchestras such as the New Haven Symphony.
